11/701202
Inventors:
Shigetoshi Eda - Knoxville TN, US
Clarence A. Speer - Louisville TN, US
Assignee:
University of Tennessee Research Foundation - Knoxville TN
International Classification:
C12Q 1/02
G01N 33/53
A61K 39/04
A61K 39/02
A61K 39/38
US Classification:
435 29, 424 91, 424 92, 4241301, 4241641, 4241841, 4242341, 4242481, 435 4, 435 71, 435 72, 435 405, 436501, 436536
Abstract:
A method for diagnosing the presence in an animal of an infection due to a microorganism in which a test sample obtained from the animal is exposed to a population of the microorganism and the presence of binding of the microorganism by an antibody in the test sample is determined.

Method For Diagnosing Infections

US Patent:
7713715, May 11, 2010
Filed:
Sep 6, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/220156
Inventors:
Clarence A. Speer - Louisville TN, US
Shigetoshi Eda - Knoxville TN, US
Assignee:
University of Tennessee Research Foundation - Knoxville TN
International Classification:
G01N 33/554
G01N 33/569
G01N 33/53
US Classification:
435 732, 435 731, 435 71
Abstract:
Antigens are removed from the surface of an organism, such as a microorganism, without disrupting the organism and releasing internal antigens of the organism. The free surface antigens of the organism may be used to determine the presence of infection in an animal due to the organism by determining the presence of antibodies that bind to the free surface antigens in a sample obtained from the animal.

Methods For Detecting A Biomarker By Alternating Current Electrokinetics

US Patent:
20170108493, Apr 20, 2017
Filed:
Dec 28, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/392412
Inventors:
- Knoxville TN, US
Shigetoshi Eda - Knoxville TN, US
International Classification:
G01N 33/543
G01N 27/02
Abstract:
Methods are described for detecting pathogens, infectious diseases, and physiological conditions by quantifying change of impedance over time of when a biological sample is applied onto a lab-on-a-chip. The lab-on-a-chip utilizes alternating-current electrokinetic (ACEK) phenomena such that molecules move or are carried in an electric field generated by the application of an electrical signal of predetermined magnitude and frequency to an electrode array of the lab-on-a-chip.

Method And Apparatus For Detection Of A Biomarker By Alternating Current Electrokinetics

US Patent:
20150004627, Jan 1, 2015
Filed:
Jan 22, 2013
Appl. No.:
14/374312
Inventors:
- Knoxville TN, US
Shigetoshi Eda - Knoxville TN, US
International Classification:
G01N 27/02
US Classification:
435 78, 4352872, 435 71, 4352871
Abstract:
Systems, methods and a lab-on-a-chip product are described for the detection of pathogens, infectious diseases and physiological conditions by quantifying change over time of one of capacitance or impedance when a biological sample is loaded onto the chip. The lab-on-a-chip utilizes AC electrokinetic phenomena such that molecules move or are carried in an electric field generated by the application of a signal of predetermined voltage and frequency to an electrode array. In particular, an electrode array of a conductive material is constructed on a substrate that may comprise silicon or quartz/glass or other known substrate, in one embodiment, a molecular probe comprising a bacterial antigen, an antibody against pathogen an antibody against protein or other biomarker is dispersed on the electrode array and blocked. A test for detection of diseases or conditions in animal or human including but not limited to Johne's disease, mastitis, pregnancy, heart attack and diabetes comprises taking the biological sample, dropping the sample on the chip, applying the predetermined signal to the chip for a predetermined time and detecting the biomarker through measuring the change in one of capacitance and impedance over time.
