Ethylene Oxide Recovery Process

US Patent:
7569710, Aug 4, 2009
Filed:
Feb 23, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/070992
Inventors:
Brian Ozero - Westhampton Beach NY, US
International Classification:
C07D 301/32
C07D 301/08
C07C 29/10
US Classification:
549538, 549523, 549541, 568867
Abstract:
An improved process for the recovery of a high-purity, ethylene oxide-water stream for use as feed to integrated ethylene glycol or ethylene oxide purification reactors by first contacting the gaseous effluent from ethylene oxide reactors with an aqueous alkaline quench solution water wash, then absorbing ethylene oxide from the washed vapor into process water to produce a dilute EO-water absorbate of which 10-90% is sent directly to the EO reabsorber/residual absorber, thereby bypassing the EO stripper.

Selective Extraction Of Co.sub.2 And Argon From Ethylene Oxide Recycle System

US Patent:
48793965, Nov 7, 1989
Filed:
Mar 6, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/022498
Inventors:
Brian J. Ozero - New York NY
Assignee:
Scientific Design Company, Inc. - Little Ferry NJ
International Classification:
C07D30110
US Classification:
549534
Abstract:
An improved process is disclosed for producing ethylene oxide; the process utilizing suitable semipermeable membrane units to selectively remove desired amounts of both carbon dioxide and argon diluents from the reaction recycle gas. The utilization of such a process makes possible to utilize a much cheaper low purity oxygen source without concern for feed purge losses.

Ethylene Oxide Reactor

US Patent:
49216813, May 1, 1990
Filed:
Apr 7, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/178928
Inventors:
Brian J. Ozero - New York NY
Stanley D. Becker - Hewlett NY
Assignee:
Scientific Design Company, Inc. - Little Ferry NJ
International Classification:
B01J 806
US Classification:
422197
Abstract:
Improved performance is obtained in a multi-tube reactor for oxidation of ethylene to ethylene oxide by providing a distribution zone for the coolant located downstream of the catalyst and a contiguous cooling zone. The effluent gases from the oxidation are cooled in the cooling zone by a fluid, which has been only slightly preheated and distributed uniformly in the distribution zone by contact with tubes in which the effluent gases are in low-turbulence flow. Uniform distribution of the coolant provides substantially equal cooling of the effluent gases in each tube, thus minimizing the variation in effluent gas temperature among the tubes. Preferably, the tubes in the cooling section are packed with inert particles to facilitate heat transfer, while the tubes are empty in the distribution section to reduce heat transfer.

Coproduction Of Aniline And Diphenylamine

US Patent:
44043996, Sep 13, 1983
Filed:
Sep 30, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/431532
Inventors:
Nand K. Kochar - Bronx NY
Brian J. Ozero - New York NY
Assignee:
The Halcon SD Group, Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
C07C 8506
US Classification:
564402
Abstract:
A process for the coproduction of aniline and diphenylamine from phenol and ammonia is shown. An aniline reaction mixture containing ammonia and phenol is at least partially reacted to form aniline and that reaction mixture is distilled to separate a portion of the product aniline and the unreacted phenol therein. Aniline and phenol are then at least partially reacted to form diphenylamine. Product aniline and diphenylamine are recovered. In the preferred embodiment the aniline formed in the aniline reaction is stripped of ammonia and water and distilled to form purified aniline and a crude bottoms product containing phenol and aniline. The latter stream is combined with the dried effluent from the diphenylamine reactor and, after distillation to separate crude diphenylamine, is recycled to the diphenylamine reactor.

Selective Extraction Of Argon From Ethylene Oxide Recycle Stream

US Patent:
49048074, Feb 27, 1990
Filed:
Mar 6, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/022496
Inventors:
Brian J. Ozero - New York NY
Assignee:
Scientific Design Company, Inc. - Little Ferry NJ
International Classification:
C07D30110
US Classification:
549534
Abstract:
The invention relates to an improved process for production of ethylene oxide which minimizes unreacted ethylene losses through the use of semi-permeable membrane units, thereby allowing an effective, selective removal of argon from the process cycle gas, without significant ethylene losses.

Process For Recovery Of Ethylene Oxide Containing Low Levels Of Aldehydic Impurities

US Patent:
41347978, Jan 16, 1979
Filed:
Feb 21, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/879544
Inventors:
Brian J. Ozero - New York NY
Assignee:
Halcon Research & Development Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
B01D 300
B01D 114
C07D30132
US Classification:
203 75
Abstract:
A process for the recovery of ethylene oxide containing low levels of aldehydic impurities from an impure aqueous ethylene oxide solution containing the same is provided in which the impure solution is treated in a novel multi-stage, countercurrent distillation zone for improved separation of said aldehydic impurities and recovery of an ethylene oxide-containing product stream having the desired low concentration of aldehydic impurities.

Process For The Recovery Of Ethylene Oxide

US Patent:
39649806, Jun 22, 1976
Filed:
Mar 24, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/561515
Inventors:
Brian I. Ozero - New York NY
Assignee:
Halcon International, Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
C01D 114
US Classification:
203 42
Abstract:
The conventional process for the recovery of ethylene oxide produced by the silver catalyzed, vapor phase, partial oxidation of ethylene with molecular oxygen involves a sequence of steps including absorption in water of the ethylene oxide contained in the reaction effluent. The ethylene oxide-containing absorbate is then stripped and the vapor thus generated is subjected to reabsorption, also in water. This invention provides an improved stripper-reabsorption system and includes the steps of partial condensation of the stripper overhead and introduction of an additional absorbent stream into the readsorption step.

International Classification:
C07C 29/80
C07C 29/38
C07D 301/32
C07D 303/04
Abstract:
An improved process for the recovery of high-purity ethylene-oxide water feed streams to EO purification and MEG reaction units when both are operating in EO plants that incorporate EO Stripper bypass technology, by installing a second lights stripper to exclusively degasify the diluted EO feed to the MEG reactor, thus permitting the use of additional bypassed (gasified) EO absorbate as the diluent and resulting in a substantial increase in the total amount of EO absorbate that can bypass the EO Stripper.
