A61M 37/00
US Classification:
600485, 604 401
Abstract:
A method of detecting a dislodged needle in a hemodialysis procedure includes measuring venous drip pressure of the dialysis machine of a patient undergoing hemodialysis, analyzing the venous drip pressure and deriving intravascular blood pressure at a location of venous needle insertion into the patient, comparing the derived intravascular blood pressure to a standard, repeating the measuring, analyzing and deriving, and comparing steps and, if the intravascular blood pressure is within a specified range of the standard, determining that a needle has been dislodged in the hemodialysis procedure. A method of alerting the patient and medical personnel of a dislodged needle in a hemodialysis procedure includes detecting a drop in intravascular pressure derived from measured venous drip pressure, determining that a needle is dislodged, and alerting medical personnel of the dislodged needle.

Access Pressure Ratio Device And Testing Method

US Patent:
20060272421, Dec 7, 2006
Filed:
Jul 29, 2002
Appl. No.:

International Classification:
G01L 7/00
US Classification:
073710000
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a detection device for detecting irregular intravascular pressure, the device including an analyzer for automatically analyzing intravascular pressure upstream of the suspected location of irregular blood flow, and a comparing device that correlates the recorded intravascular pressure to a standard whereby variation in the intravascular pressure during multiple tests is indicative of irregular blood flow. Also disclosed is a system for providing a warning of potential health problems due to irregular blood flow, the system including a detecting device as set forth above and a communicating device operatively connected to the detecting device for communicating a warning when the device indicates an irregularity of intravascular pressure during at least two uses of the device.

Device And Method For Detecting Irregular Placement Of An Extracorporeal Vascular Access Needle

US Patent:
20140024954, Jan 23, 2014
Filed:
Jan 7, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/735421
Inventors:
Gerard Zasuwa - West Bloomfield MI, US
Jerry Yee - Beverly Hills MI, US
Anatole Besarab - Bloomfield Hills MI, US
John B. Kennedy - Evanston IL, US
Douglas S. Curry - West Lafayette IN, US
Helen Kimball Hirschman - Evanston IL, US
Assignee:
Henry Ford Health System - Detroit MI
International Classification:
A61M 5/168
A61B 5/00
A61B 5/021
US Classification:
600485
Abstract:
A device and method for determining intravascular pressure and irregular needle placement in a hemodialysis procedure include analyzing means for automatically deriving venous access pressure (VAP) at a location of venous needle insertion into the patient and determining a ratio of VAP to mean arterial pressure, where the analyzing means determines multiple VAP values over multiple time periods and determines multiple ratios, one for each VAP value. Detecting means compare each ratio to a predetermined standard ratio derived from a moving average of prior VAP ratios, where the detecting means detects irregular needle placement when elevation of the ratio above the standard ratio is indicated.

International Classification:
G16H 50/30
G16H 50/70
G16H 10/60
Abstract:
A method for determining risk of an adverse event, such as thrombosis or a required intervention, associated with a vascular access includes receiving hemodialysis treatment data associated with the vascular access, deriving a plurality of selected risk factors from the hemodialysis treatment data, evaluating the plurality of selected risk factors over a time period, assigning raw scores to each selected risk factor based on its values over the time period, summing the raw scores for the plurality of selected risk factors to determine a cumulative raw score, and correlating the cumulative raw score with a level of risk of an adverse event associated with the vascular access.

System And Method Of Monitoring Dislodgement Of Venous Needles In Dialysis Patients

US Patent:
20190381233, Dec 19, 2019
Filed:
Sep 19, 2017
Appl. No.:
16/334157
Inventors:
- Detroit MI, US
Gerard ZASUWA - West Bloomfield MI, US
Jerry YEE - Beverly Hills MI, US
Anatole BESARAB - Bloomfield Hills MI, US
Assignee:
HENRY FORD HEALTH SYSTEM - Detroit MI
International Classification:
A61M 1/36
A61M 5/168
Abstract:
A method and a system are provided for detecting a condition indicative of a dislodged needle in a hemodialysis procedure. A venous return pressure for a patient undergoing dialysis is measured. The venous return pressure is analyzed via a controller, and an intravascular blood pressure in proximity to a location of needle insertion into the patient is derived. A lower limit is calculated as a function of the intravascular blood pressure via the controller. An average of the venous return pressure is calculated via the controller during a predetermined time window. The average is compared to the lower limit via the controller, and if the average is within a specified range of the lower limit, the controller determines that a condition indicative of a dislodged needle is present.

Method For Detecting Intravascular Volume Depletion During A Hemodialysis Session

US Patent:
20190314566, Oct 17, 2019
Filed:
Jun 13, 2017
Appl. No.:
16/309019
Inventors:
- Detroit MI, US
Stanley FRINAK - Farmington Hills MI, US
Jerry YEE - Beverly Hills MI, US
Anatole BESARAB - Bloomfield Hills MI, US
John B. KENNEDY - Evanston IL, US
Jeffrey J. SANDS - Orlando FL, US
Assignee:
HENRY FORD HEALTH SYSTEM - Detroit MI
International Classification:
A61M 1/16
Abstract:
A method of detecting intravascular volume depletion in a patient during a hemodialysis session includes measuring venous drip pressure for the patient. With a computer-driven analyzer, the method further includes analyzing the venous drip pressure and automatically and continuously determining a venous access pressure in proximity to a location of needle insertion into a vascular access site of the patient, wherein changes in venous access pressure are representative of changes in intravascular blood pressure. Using the analyzer, the method further includes comparing the venous access pressure to a standard and, if the venous access pressure is outside of a defined range of the standard, determining with the analyzer that the patient is experiencing intravascular volume depletion during the hemodialysis session.
